Should women just cook and clean?

My husband is forcing me to stay at home and not get a job when I really want to. He says my duty is to cook for him, clean the house and remain entrenched in domestic chores. He says that I have no place elsewhere, nor do women. I'm scared to go against him and I have no idea what to do. It's as if I'm his slave, and I told him this, but he hit me and called me an inferior whore, which really hurt me. Are all women supposed to live like this? Are we really nothing compared to men?
